A message from creator of The Comic Tree, Phil Lohmeyer
"Comic Strips can solve problems. In fact, they can solve your problem!"
Some kids can be hesitant to draw.
This is often because they think they are 'not good at art.' A teacher, peer, friend or relative at some point told them this incorrect statement, and it stuck. Drawing comics can bring relief to these kids, because in a comic strip anything is possible. Through comics, students can learn that their style is correct. |
Some kids don't like to read.
Text-only books can be restrictive, as they require students to correctly recognize letters, words, and grammar. Luckily, comics offer so much more! Comics enable students to understand complex stories, emotions, plot elements, and helps them figure out solutions to problems. |
Some parents don't know how to help.
They see their child's potential, but notice a visual stagnancy and are not sure how to bring their son or daughter's ideas to life. By creating comic strips with their kids, families can invent impactful projects and make memories together. Message me today, to see how we can make it happen! |
The Comic Tree Process
Learn Characters
Crawl, hop, flutter, climb, and fly your way to comic strip mastery! In The Comic Tree Workshop, you can learn how to draw 8 different characters with a 4-step process. Drawing lightly at first, going around your shapes several times, putting the right shapes in the right places at the right size, and saving the details for the end, will help any aspiring cartoonist to learn basic character creation.
Learn Strategies
Each character from The Comic Tree also teaches you a specific cartooning skill, such as Facial Expressions by Streets the Mouse seen here. These lessons will enable you to "level up" while learning both drawing techniques and storytelling strategies. Either follow along with the videos on this website, contact The Comic Tree to find a workshop near you, or reach out to creator Phil Lohmeyer to book a private session either in person or with a FaceTime call.
