Welcome to The Comic Tree!
The Comic Tree is an educational curriculum formatted as a graphic novel, used to teach elementary school students about comic strips.
Art teachers will be able to use The Comic Tree to introduce artistic concepts such as shading, drawing facial expressions, shapes and forms, speech and thought balloons, perspective, and the basic anatomy of a comic strip. In addition, storytelling techniques are explored, allowing teachers to plan interdisciplinary lessons with writing components.
The Comic Tree is the basis of a series of "How-to" educational books aimed at students in elementary and middle school, formatted for both print and tablet use. Each book will be introduced by a different animal character, and new drawing and storytelling concepts will be discussed in each chapter. The Comic Tree Workshop is a series of classes that students sign up for, taught at schools, libraries, and community centers, so that students can learn these concepts with the assistance of a certified instructor.
